For many parents in Brisbane, the "after-school rush" usually involves sitting on a sideline or waiting in the car while their kids participate in sports. But what if you could step onto the mats yourself?

At Grand Martial Arts in Indooroopilly, one of the most frequent questions we hear from curious parents is: "Can I do a class with my child?"

Our answer is a passionate Yes! We believe that families who kick together, stick together. Here is why training together is one of the most rewarding journeys you can take as a parent.

A Shared Journey of Growth

Starting Kids Martial Arts can be a big step for a child. For some, entering a dojo for the first time feels intimidating. When a parent joins in, that "fear of the unknown" instantly vanishes. By training alongside your child, you provide a sense of security that allows them to flourish.

More importantly, it creates a unique "learned experience." In most parts of life, the parent is the teacher and the child is the student. In our family-focused classes, you are both learners. Seeing Dad or Mum struggle with a new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu technique and then persevere through it is a powerful lesson in resilience that no lecture can ever replace.

Building Bonds Through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Our family-style classes aren't just "childcare with parents watching"—they are structured sessions focusing on:

  • Functional Fitness: Improving strength, flexibility, and coordination for both generations.

  • Fundamental BJJ Movements: Learning the basic ground-control techniques of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a safe, play-based environment.

  • Self-Defence Skills: Empowering your family with practical skills to stay safe.

  • Quality Connection: In a world of digital distractions, the mats offer 45–60 minutes of uninterrupted, face-to-face (and chest-to-chest) connection.

The Grand Martial Arts Environment

Located conveniently in Indooroopilly, we’ve built our academy to be a community hub for Brisbane families. We offer specific classes designed for adults and kids to train together, ensuring the techniques are accessible for the little ones while remaining engaging for the adults.

Jeremy Juhas is the driving force behind Grand Martial Arts. As a father himself, Jeremy understands the delicate balance of parenting and the desire to see your children grow into confident, disciplined individuals.

With a martial arts journey that began in 2008, Jeremy holds Black Belts in Defence, Kyushin Ryu Jujitsu, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that martial arts is a lifelong tool for family bonding. Jeremy personally oversees our family programs to ensure every parent and child leaves the mat feeling more connected and capable than when they walked in.
