Respect and Discipline
At Grand Martial Arts, we pride ourselves on fostering a training environment built on respect, tradition, and discipline. Our dojo etiquette guidelines are essential for ensuring a positive, focused, and safe experience for every student, from our youngest members to our most experienced adults. By adhering to these simple rules, you help maintain the integrity of our training space and contribute to the growth of our entire community.

Essential Mat Etiquette
To help us uphold these core values and ensure a harmonious training environment, please observe the following mat etiquette.
-
Bow On and Off the Mat: Always perform a bow when you step onto and off the training mat. This simple gesture acknowledges the sacredness of the training space, shows respect for your fellow practitioners, and signifies your readiness to train or your appreciation for the session.
-
Line Up in Rank Order: Before class begins, both kids and adults should line up promptly in rank order. This traditional practice demonstrates discipline, acknowledges the hierarchy of experience, and prepares everyone for the start of the session in an organized manner.
-
Introduce Yourself to Coaches: When you enter the mat, take a moment to introduce yourself to the head coach and any assistant coaches present. This shows respect for their leadership and ensures they are aware of who is on the mat.
-
Acknowledge If You're Late: If you arrive late for class, please wait at the edge of the mat and bow. Do not step onto the mat until the instructor acknowledges you and bows you on. This ensures you don't disrupt the class flow and shows respect for those who started on time.
Our Commitment to a Positive Training Environment
These etiquette guidelines are more than just rules; they are a fundamental part of our training philosophy. By embracing them, you help us continue to build a respectful, focused, and positive training environment for all students.
Your attention to these details and your ongoing commitment to growth are greatly appreciated.
We look forward to seeing you demonstrate these practices in every class, and we wish you all the best on your martial arts journey, including at your next grading day!
